Seems good for the price but are claims true? Jun 13, 2010 We've been using the AQ4000 counter top unit for several years now.
It seems to do a good job on our well water which is run thru a whole house filter and then a softner first.
Looks and tastes good and the price is right.
However, the cartridge replacement is kind of a pain.
Tended to be hard to loosen covers to get at the cartridges. This part of the plastic did eventually break and I am thinking of buying another now.
Some have reported leaks and you do have to be careful to get the O-ring greased and in just the right way or it will leak.
But it never developed a leak later on, only when changing cartridges and you'd just have to monkey with it
a bit to fix.
Wear gloves if you ever do this as I cut my hand pretty good on the hard plastic the first time I had to change them.
My problem now is their performance data claims (which another reviewer correctly pointed out are non NSF certified.
They are "UL certified by NSF standards" according to Aquasana).
But they seem too good to be true when compared to other units of the same type. (non-rev osmosis)
I looked at a 3M undersink product that has a much easier to change filter for not much more money then the AQ but it's reduction tests were not as good as the AQ4000.
I imagine 3M would know their way around filters too.....but who knows?
If anyone has any thoughts please reply.

Enjoy it while it lasts May 18, 2010 Like its shower-head sister, its made of cheap plastic. I have had three of these (and two shower heads) and they all have cracked in the oddest of places. It works very nicely while it lasts but I'm tired of replacing it.

A good compromise May 04, 2010 What type of water is the best water to drink?
Reverse osmosis?
Distilled water?
Spring water?
Alkaline water?
Ionized water?...
I read about many of them, and many have their detractors or defenders.
The common sense would be to drink water that is the closest to its natural state, which is spring water. Now the industrial and chemical pollution (including the use of plastic to store water) has reached to the spring.
I found the Aquasana filter to be a good compromise. It is not perfect, but it is good for the house, in the shower or as drinking water.
My water tastes good, and many friends have complimented me about it.
A common sense would be to not always drink the same type of water. Alternate.
Aquasana filters most of the bad elements found in municipal waters.
Arsenic 5 won't be eliminated 100% but if you follow my advise above, you would realize that this filtration system does a good job.

Great Aquasana Water Filter May 03, 2010 This counter top unit replaced a faucet mounted one that failed in less than a year. This item always works perfectly. Its easy to install and the automatic arrival of replacement filters helps me keep the quality water flowing. I would recommend it anyone as an excellent value for the price.

The best. Mar 27, 2010 I bought mine directly from the manufacturer about a month ago, and I don't know how I've lived without it. The water at my apartment is absolutely disgusting. You can seriously almost 'taste the fluoride', and you can literally smell the sulfur and whatever else is in the soup coming out of my faucet. With this filtration system installed the water is delicious. Noticeably better than any Pur/Brita water I've tried in the past, yet it doesn't taste 'empty' like perfectly distilled water because it's designed to retain some trace minerals. It's perfect drinking water.
I signed up for the 6 month auto replacement program for the filters (Water 4 Life), which costs $8 a month, automatically debited from checking account, and shipped to your door with no additional shipping charges. The filters have a 500 gallon limit, so that's up to 2.74 gallons a day at 9.6 cents per gallon.
Setup was so easy that it's not even worth explaining here.
Not a whole lot more to say, I couldn't be happier!
